Dufner had a successful amateur career, attending Auburn University in Alabama where he was a three-time All-American. After graduation, he played on the Hooters Tour before earning his PGA Tour card.
Duffer turned professional in 2000 but in his first seven seasons as a pro, he only spent one on the PGA Tour. However, in 2006 Duffner finished eighth on the Nationwide Tour money list to earn his tour card in 2007 for the second time in his career, and after bouncing up and down once more, he earned his PGA Tour card for good in 2009.
Dufner's professional career took off in 2010 when he finished tied for 10th at the PGA Championship, and he continued to improve over the next few years. He had his breakthrough win at the 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and went on to win the PGA Championship in 2013. He is considered one of the most consistent golfers on the PGA Tour, known for his accurate drives and strong putting skills.
His eight professional wins include two wins on the Nationwide Tour, five wins on the PGA Tour, including his lone major, the 2013 PGA Championship, and a win in the 2015 Franklin Templeton Shootout with teammate Brandt Snedeker during the PGA Tour's "silly season."
Duffner finished runner-up in the 2011 PGA Championship after losing to Keegan Bradley in a playoff.
