Jason Day Career Achievements

Jason Day had a successful amateur career between Australia and the U.S. He won the Australian Junior Order of Merit twice and also the 15-17 boys division at the 2004 Callaway World Junior Championship. In 2005, Day lost in a playoff at the Greater Building Society QLD PGA Championship (a professional event) after four extra holes of play.

The following year, in 2006, Day turned pro and played on the PGA Tour with sponsor’s exemptions. He made the cut at five of his first six events but failed to earn his PGA Tour card for the 2007 season. He instead earned conditional status on the Nationwide Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) for that season. He won the 2007 Legend Financial Group Classic and was the youngest player to win on any PGA Tour-affiliated circuit. He earned his PGA Tour card and eventually won his first PGA Tour event at the 2010 HP Byron Nelson Championship.

As Day continued to play solid golf, he had his first contention in a major championship at the 2011 Masters. Day was tied for the lead throughout the final round and birdied the final two holes, only to come up two shots short of winner Charl Schwartzel. Day’s total of -12 was the lowest score at the Masters by a first-time participant. Day registered another runner-up finish at the following major, the 2011 U.S. Open.

At the 2013 Masters, Day contended yet again, holding a share of the lead throughout the week. He bogied the 70th and 71st holes to miss the playoff between Angel Cabrera and eventual winner, Adam Scott. Just two months later at the 2013 U.S. Open Day notched his third runner-up finish in a major, finishing two strokes behind Justin Rose at Merion Golf Club.

Day won several events over the next two years, including the 2014 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. It was at the 2015 PGA Championship, however, where Day finally won his first major championship. He became the first player to shoot 20-under-par in a major, and finished three shots ahead of Jordan Spieth at Whistling Straits.

Since his PGA Championship win, Day has not won another major but has been victorious at two FedEx Cup playoff events as well as the 2016 Players Championship. A player who was pegged to win multiple majors, Day hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship.

Jason Day has battled back issues throughout his career, preventing him from being in full health for many events. Outside of that, he collapsed on the final hole of the second round in the 2017 U.S. Open while dealing with vertigo. Day would finish the tournament.

Jason Day has been a part of the International team in the Presidents Cup four times (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017). His career earnings are $50,885,320.

Jason Day’s golf swing is recognizable by his abbreviated backswing, which is followed by a powerful follow-through that generates his big distance, particularly off the tee.
