The Rec Park 18 course is nice and wide and has no lakes and only one sand trap enticed my ball. I'm still new to golf (about 18 months) and I really enjoyed the course. I did not golf a good round, yet still enjoyed the day. Personally, I found it a bit pricey ($75 included a cart), but if you live in Long Beach it's much cheaper. If I were a local I would golf here all of the time. The course moved well and we barely had to wait for the group in front of us while those behind us never waited.

Played "Big Rec" for the first time today and shot a 110. Got 4 bogeys, and the rest were 6s 7s and a couple 8s. That's kind of a high score for me, I usually shoot about 100 on a Par 71 course. Anyways, I like this course. Very pretty, rolling hills (I walked) course is in good shape, good pace of play (played 18 in 4.0 hours) I walked on standby, and I only had to wait about 5 minutes. I played on a Thursday and tee'd off at 10:30am. Got paired with two older gents who were great guys. I'm 50 years old. This is one of the better public courses I've played, and I've played a few. I will definitely come back!

I don't know why anyone likes this course. If you're not getting the resident rate don't waste your time. It's not in good shape. It's not pretty. I've heard that they host more rounds of golf here than anywhere else in the country. That's not a good thing. Bring a lawn chair with you. If you can play for $10 then I guess I understand.
