The Biggest Purses On the PGA Tour
14 different PGA Tour events pay out $20M or more. Here are the PGA Tour's 20 biggest purses of 2024
There's a whole lot more money to be made on the PGA Tour than there used to be. With eight Signature Events, prize money is at an all-time high. In total, the tour will sanction 40 events in 2024, including the majors which are run by other organizations. So which events have the largest purses? Here are the events that will give players the largest novelty checks.
Largest Purses on the PGA Tour
When you look at the 2024 PGA Tour schedule, you’ll find purses that range from $4 million all the way up to $25 million. Now called Signature Events, 2024 marks the second year with a batch of eight elevated tournaments, each offering a $20 million purse.
The FedEx Cup technically does not have a purse, with its payouts considered a bonus pool, but the season-ending event is worth a whopping $100 million in 2024, up from a mere $75 million the previous two seasons. The changes, which took shape for the 2023 season, are designed to keep the PGA Tour’s best players gunning for those top spots, while allowing for significant financial opportunities for players who find themselves in the middle of the pack throughout the season.

1. Tour Championship
Purse: $100,000,000 | Winner’s Share: $25,000,000
All roads lead to East Lake Golf Club where the Tour Championship winner is simultaneously crowned FedEx Cup Champion. Anyone who plays in the event is already in the top 30 for FedEx Cup points, so they’re leaving Atlanta with a nice paycheck. In 2024, the bonus pool, which we'll consider a purse even though the accountants may disagree, is jumping from $75 million up to $100 million, and the winner will leave with $25 million.
2. The Players Championship
Purse: $25,000,000 | Winner’s Share: $4,500,000
Widely considered the best field in all of golf, The Players Championship has always carried the “fifth major” title. The 2024 purse remains at $25 million for the second season in a row, so the pressure on the historic island green 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass will be even more intense.

T3. The Masters
Purse: $20,000,000 | Winner’s Share: $3,600,000
The season’s first major championship, and the most recognizable to the average golf fan, the Masters is one of the pinnacles of the game. Scottie Scheffler put a $3,600,000 check into the pocket of his second green jacket when he left Augusta in 2024.
T3. U.S. Open
Purse: $20,000,000 | Winner’s Share: $3,600,000
The 2024 U.S. Open is once again slated to dish out a $20 million purse. In 2023, when the U.S. Open also gave out $20 million, Wyndham Clark cashed a $3,600,000 check for claiming his first major championship at LA Country Club.
T3. 8 Signature Events
Those eight signature events in 2024 each come with a $20 million purse, making a 12-way tie for the third-largest purse on the PGA Tour in 2024.
T3. FedEx St. Jude Championship
Purse: $20,000,000 | Winner’s Share: $3,600,000
One of the PGA Tour’s most feel-good events, the FedEx St. Jude Classic is held at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, and benefits the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first leg of the 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs.
T3. BMW Championship
Purse: $20,000,000 | Winner’s Share: $3,600,000
The BMW Championship is the FedEx Cup Playoff gem that catapults the top 30 to the Tour Championship. In 2023, the event returns to Olympia Fields Country Club outside of Chicago with a $20 million purse.
15. PGA Championship
Purse: $18,500,000 | Winner’s Share: $3,330,000
Another major purse for another major championship. The PGA of America coughed up a $18.5 million purse in May, it's largest ever, and Xander Schauffele cashed $3,330,000 of that as he claimed his maiden major.
16. British Open
Purse: TBD (estimated $17,500,000) | Winner’s Share: TBD
The year’s final major is the oldest tournament in golf, the British Open. The 2024 purse has not been announced but the 2023 purse was $16,500,000, and if it aligns with trends from the other majors, it's fair to estimate that the purse will remain the same or increase by about $1 million in 2024.
