Marc Leishman is an Australian-born professional golfer who had great success as an amateur in his home country. One of the fun facts about his amateur golf days is that he won the Warrnambool Club Championship at age 13, while playing in the same group as his father. In 2001, Leishman won both the Victorian Junior Masters and the South Australian Junior Masters.

Leishman attended the Victoria Institute of Sport, which isn’t exactly a college, but it does take college-aged students and trains them to be top-tier athletes and performers.

In 2005, Leishman turned pro and began playing on the Von Nida Tour, which was a feeder tour to the PGA Tour of Australasia. Leishman won twice and in 2007 he joined the Nationwide Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour). There, he won the 2008 WNB Golf Classic, placed 19th on the money list, and graduated to the PGA Tour for the 2009 season.

While Leishman didn’t win during his rookie season, he did place in the top-10 three times, and was voted Rookie of the Year. His most notable performance in 2009 was a runner-up finish to Tiger Woods at the BMW Championship.

After 96 starts on the PGA Tour, Leishman finally got his first win at the 2012 Travelers Championship. Leishman began the final round six shots back of the lead but fired a 62 to seal the victory. The following year, in 2013, Leishman began showing strength in major championships. He held the first round lead at the Masters along with Sergio Garcia and would finish the championship tied for fourth.

Leishman’s best chance at a major thus far came at the 2015 British Open. After four stellar rounds at St. Andrews, he found himself tied for the lead with Zach Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen. The trio went to an aggregate playoff with Johnson coming out on top.

2017 has been Marc Leishman’s most successful on the PGA Tour in terms of wins. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and then got his biggest win to date at the BMW Championship, a FedEx Cup playoff event. Leishman won the event by five strokes, with Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose tying for second.

Leishman has won three times since 2017, most notably his 2021 victory at the Zurich Classic with teammate and fellow countryman, Cameron Smith.

Marc Leishman has played in five Presidents Cup matches representing the International team (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019) and has $35,216,824 in career earnings.

At 6-feet-2 inches tall, Leishman is known for his tall, long golf swing. He is known for his power but is also a top example for overall balance.

In 2022, Leishman left the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf. It was rumoured that Leishman turned down the original offer from LIV Golf, but eventually accepted and played in the final four events of the inaugural season. His best finish was 13th in Bangkok.
