PING Irons by Year: Every Model from 1961 to 2024
Here's a list of all PING iron sets by year, and how to de-code their names
PING has been churning out irons since 1961 and is responsible for the best-selling iron in golf history, the PING Eye 2 irons.
Throughout the iron history of PING irons, PING has stayed very consistent. Practice what you preach, right? After all, PING is known for making every effort to deliver consistency to golfers’ games.
To follow up those Eye 2 irons, the Scottsdale, Arizona-based OEM has faithfully stuck with i-Series, G-Series, and S-Series irons, with only a few additions along the way. Those iron series', each targeted to a specific skill set, give players a distinctive lane in which to shop.
PING Iron Features
PING irons have some distinctive features, mostly designed to provide the best-fitting iron possible.
First, PING created its color code chart, designed to fit players into the appropriate length and lie angle based on a player’s height and wrist-to-floor measurements.
Have you ever noticed that PING irons are notched in the hosel? That notch actually exists to make the irons easier to bend (adjust the lie angle).
PING G-Series Irons
PING’s G-Series of irons are classic game-improvement irons geared towards the largest segment of golfers. They have a larger profile, cast build (not forged), and are built to maximize forgiveness at the expense of workability, given that most mid-to-high handicap players prefer to hit the ball straighter rather than dial up a fade or draw.

PING i-Series Irons
PING’s i-Series of irons spun off from the Eye (1979) and Eye 2 (1982), and PING went all-in on the series beginning with the 2000 release of the i3 Blade and i3 Oversize irons.
The i-series is a bit of an in-between series, known for packing forgiveness and workability into a sleek-looking package that appeals to better players. PING i-Series irons are suitable for mid-to-low handicap players.
PING S-Series Irons
PING dropped S-Series irons every couple years from 2003 to 2013. The S-Series irons, which began with the 2003 release of the S59, then counted down until the final S55 irons were released in 2013, were forged, better players irons that got plenty of play on tour.
PING later merged the S-Series with the i-Series beginning with the iBlade in 2016.

Every PING Iron Model Listed by Year
While PING has been consistent with its iron series’ and release cycles, not every PING iron falls into one of those three lines. Here is every PING iron ever released, by year.
