Sungjae Im Career Highlights
After turning pro in 2015, Sungjae Im played his first two seasons on the Japan Golf Tour and the Korean Tour. In 2018, Im debuted on the Web.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) where he won twice. First, the WinCo Foods Portland Open, then at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic.
After earning his PGA Tour card, Im had his first opportunity for a victory at the 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship, but lost in a playoff to Sebastian Munoz. Im also made his team competition debut in 2019 when he represented the International team at the Presidents Cup. Im went 3-1-1 but the U.S. team won the event. He also represented the Internationals in 2022.
The following year Sungjae Im earned his first win at the 2020 Honda Classic. His final round score of 66 was good enough to win by one stroke over Mackenzie Hughes. Im is the youngest player to ever win the Honda Classic. If golf fans didn’t know him from that victory, they became familiar with him at the 2020 Masters, where he tied for second place.
The 2021 Shriners Children’s Open would be Sungjae Im’s second PGA Tour win. His final round score of 62 cleared the field by four strokes.
Im has one other professional win, the 2019 Genesis Championship on the Korean Tour.
Sungjae Im has only had to deal with some minor injuries in his career including a slight wrist injury. In 2022, Im had to address false rumors of him leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. The rumors were based on his absence from a tour event.
His golf swing is recognizable by his low and slow takeaway, which is followed by an explosive and deliberate follow through.

Sungjae Im was born March 30, 1998 to Ji Taek Im and Mi Kim. Im is known as a road warrior in professional golf. In his young career, Im has played in nine countries and 19 U.S. states thus far, and he plays seemingly every week. Im has competed in 35 PGA Tour events in a single season twice in his young career, doing so in the 2020-21 and 2018-19 seasons.
Im started playing golf at age four, when he began going with his mom to practice. He had his first golf coach at age 7, and at 8 he beat his father for the first time.
