Golf's Career Grand Slam's Winners and Seekers
Six golfers have won the Career Grand Slam. Here are those who've done it, and those who are close.

By winning the 2025 Masters, Rory McIlroy became only the sixth golf grand slam winner, and the first player in a quarter century to complete golf's Career Grand Slam.
Golf's grand slam is, without a doubt, one of the game's "white whales." Golf's four major championships — the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and Open Championship (British Open) — make up the grand slam. To win even one major in a career is a tremendous feat. To have won all four is automatic legend status. So who's won the Career Grand Slam and who's on the hunt? Here is the current list.
Golf's Career Grand Slam Winners
While winning the grand slam in a single year may be close to impossible, the career grand slam offers players something to strive for over the course of decades.
The career grand slam — winning each major championship at least once during a career — has been accomplished by only six golfers. When Rory McIlroy completed the career grand slam by winning the 2025 Masters, he became the first player to complete the feat since Tiger Woods in 2000.
Remarkably, Woods and Nicklaus have each won three Career Grand Slams and are the only players in golf’s history to do so.
Career Grand Slam Winner | Year Completed (Age) |

Golf Grand Slam History
While the four majors make up the grand slam today, the U.S. Amateur and the Amateur Championship were considered major championships at one time. Though with the full professionalization of golf, they are no longer considered majors.
The literal Grand Slam is when a player wins all four major championships in a calendar year. In the pre-Masters era, Bobby Jones, arguably the best amateur golfer in history, pulled off the Grand Slam, the only of its kind, in 1930 when he won both American and British Opens and Amateurs.
However, no golfer in the modern era has achieved this "rare air." Tiger Woods won four consecutive majors, but his streak spanned two seasons, beginning with the 2000 U.S. Open and ending with a triumph at the 2001 Masters. That feat, dubbed the “Tiger Slam” had never been accomplished.

The Four Majors in Golf: The Important Facts of Each
Active Golfers with 3 of the 4 Majors
While only six players have achieved the Career Grand Slam, there are a handful more who are oh-so-close to accomplishing the feat.
There are currently two active golfers who lack one major championship to complete the Career Grand Slam.
Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson can't hide his disappointment after his 2006 U.S. Open collapse
Phil Mickelson needs to add only the U.S. Open to his impressive haul of six majors to complete the slam. Mickelson has infamously finished runner-up in the U.S. Open a record six times — 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2013 — without claiming the top spot. While the prime of his career is behind him, Mickelson earned an exemption to the U.S. Open through 2025 by virtue of his 2021 PGA Championship triumph, where he set the record as the oldest player ever to win a major.
Mickelson has three Masters, two PGA Championships, and one Open Championship title.

Jordan Spieth
The youngest player to win three of the four majors, Jordan Spieth, managed to win the Masters, U.S. Open and Open Championship by age 24. Only the PGA Championship remains in his quest to join the game’s greatest players.
Spieth almost won three of the four in 2015 alone as he took home the green jacket and U.S. Open, and finished runner up at the PGA Championship. Two years later he won the Open.

Active Players Half-Way to the Career Grand Slam
While Spieth and technically Mickelson are just one hot week away from completing the career grand slam, they aren't the only active players with a legitimate chance at the career grand slam.
In fact, there are seven active players under 50 years old who are half way to the career grand slam.
