Morning tee times are the best. You’ll never change my mind, and judging by how fast they disappear at every course I’ve ever played, I’m not the only one who feels that way.

Morning tee times come with morning coffee, and because golf season happily aligns with warm weather, that coffee is best brewed cold.

If cold brew coffee and morning tee times aren’t part of your golf ritual, I can assure you that you’re missing out. We can fix that quickly.

Four Sigmatic cold brew coffee is perfect for golf because it delivers all the energy you need without the jitters or a crash. Here’s why you need it and the best way to brew it.

Benefits:

  • Smooth taste
  • Improved focus
  • High energy
  • No jitters
  • No crash

Improved focus with no jitters and no crash. That’s the difference between Four Signatic Focus Cold Brew and regular coffee, and that’s why it’s perfect for golf. Nobody wants to suffer from jitters on the front nine and a crash on the back.

Four Sigmatic has an array of mushroom coffees that offer various benefits, and obviously the “Focus” variety, which supports mental clarity and energy, is a natural pick for golf. Four Sigmatic offers Focus in regular and cold brew grinds, but nothing pairs with a dewsweeper tee time like a perfect cold brew.

The lion's mane mushroom in Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee supports focus and productivity and the adaptogens help you feel calm energy, rather than jittery energy.

Beyond that, Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee is coffee. You won’t notice a different taste, smell, or color, because it’s real coffee, just better.

4 Tips For Brewing the Best Cold Brew

I'll admit it, I didn’t realize that cold brew and iced coffee were two different animals until I started brewing my own cold brew specifically for my early morning tee times about five years ago. That’s when I discovered that when done right, cold brew coffee can provide the best taste and energy kick of any coffee.

The biggest difference between cold brew and hot brewed coffee is that cold brew results in a much smoother, less bitter, less acidic brew. That’s because the chemical reaction between near-boiling water and coffee grounds creates the acidic taste of hot-brewed coffee (and allows you to brew a pot in minutes instead of hours). When brewed cold, most of the acidity and bitterness never makes it to your cup, delivering a smooth taste.

Cold brew also typically results in about twice as much caffeine compared to coffee brewed hot.

While cold brew requires a little extra planning, since you need to make it 12-24 hours before you want to drink it, it’s just as easy to prepare as hot-brewed coffee.

Here are four tips for making the best cold brew.

1. Coffee-To-Water Ratio

The recipe for cold brew coffee is simple. Just mix coffee grounds with water and stick it in the fridge.

I recommend starting with a 1:8 ratio of coffee grounds to water. For example, 4 ounces of grounds and 32 ounces of water.

If you decide that’s too strong or too weak for your tastes, adjust from there until you find your own personal sweet spot.

Brew Time: 12-24 Hours

Just like the ratio of coffee-to-water, the brew time itself influences your finished product. A longer brew time, around 24 hours, results in a stronger brew with more flavor.

If you want a more mild brew, simply refrigerate your brew for 12 hours. Adjust the brew time between 12-24 hours to dial in your desired outcome.

Keep in mind that if you plan on pouring your cold brew over ice, a slightly stronger brew can offset the ice inevitably diluting your brew.

3. Straining Your Brew

Mason jars and cheesecloth are the only tools diehards use to make their cold brew.

Obviously you have to extract the grounds from your brew before you can drink it. If you want to keep things simple and old school, simply strain your brew through cheesecloth once or twice and enjoy.

I’m not too proud to admit I like things to be a little more cushy, so I use a cold brew carafe specifically designed with a filter inside. I never have to strain my cold brew, and I never have grounds in my drink. It may not be the purist’s way of making cold brew, but it’s easy and I’m simple.

Whichever method you prefer to strain your brew, there’s not much effort or accessories required. Just like your preferred ratio and brew time, pick what works for you and roll with it.

4. Finishing Your Drink

Cold brew coffee is a versatile beverage. You can drink it black, pour it over ice, or add cream and sugar, just like any other coffee. However, you can liven it up with other flavors or recipes if you choose.

Some cold brewers like to use less water during the brewing process to make a cold brew concentrate and make room for other ingredients in their drink.

If you want a little flair to your cold brew, try adding vanilla or caramel to your drink. Adding a couple cinnamon sticks while your coffee brews is also a nice way to infuse your cold brew with a rich flavor.

But First, Coffee

Not much gets done before that first cup of coffee hits each morning. While not every morning calls for hot coffee, golf mornings in particular demand a smooth cold brew without the jitters or energy crash.

Experimenting with your own cold brew routine is a fun way to find the perfect brew for you, one you soon won’t want to live without.
