Tips for Proper Wrist Hinge in Your Golf Swing
How Wrist Hinge Affects Your Backswing
Many golfers have an inconsistent impact position because of how they hinge their wrists in the golf swing. It really effects the shape of the backswing, the forwardswing and impact. Your wrists hinge three ways.
- They work up and down.
- They work back and forth.
- They rotate in the golf swing, it is a combination of the three.
Golfers who take the club too much to the inside have too much rotation when they go back. Golfers that lift the club usually are more vertical when they are hinging up.
Backswing Tip - First Move is Right Wrist Works Back
If you can just remember on your backswing that your first move is that your right wrist works back. If you look at the face on view my right wrists is hinging backwards and when I do that it allows the club to swing on plane every time as I go back. I am just letting this right wrist work back as I go back and by doing that I am keeping the clubface square to the arc, I am not letting it open, you can almost look where it is a little bit closed right here, and the path of the club is exactly where it needs to be. So when I set up, and you will see this a lot of times on Tour on television now where golfers are waggling the club back and setting the club in the right position and just feeling that wrist working back.
Golf Drill for Improving Wrist Hinge
A good drill which you can do is to set up, hinge the wrist back to the straight back position, and the start your swing and hit golf shots from there, learning how to hinge your right wrist back. I am going to demonstrate one for you. I am going to set up, slight waggle feeling the right wrist work back, then duplicate that when I hit the golf shot. So when you are learning the proper golf swing, learn to hinge the right wrist back, not up and not around. If you do that you will hit successful golf shots.
