Practice Your Golf Swing in Slow Motion
Welcome back to Ed Ibarguen's lesson tee and the last time we were together we were with Harry. You remember Harry. Harry had 36 swing thoughts and that only took him to the top of his swing. We agreed last time that the golf swing takes less than two seconds to execute. How many things can you think about within those two seconds? What we want to try to get you to do is to say what on earth am I trying to do.
Think About Your Golf Setup in Slow Motion
One of the best things that you can do is to take your set up and go through, let's really do your swing in super slow motion. Look at this. I am actually moving faster than I would normally want you to do this practice.
- Here I'm starting to cock my wrists. Notice that I am doing it real slowly.
- For me, I am just trying to get this position and do all of these things so that my mind can clearly understand what I want to be doing throughout my whole swing.
- Back down to here to impact, hitting the ball, going down into the ground, getting the low spot and coming on down here and finishing.
Have a Smooth, Easy Flowing Swing Motion
I think this is a great way for you to try to look at your golf swing because you are doing it so slow that you can begin to get over that worrying about each little thing. You are not saying am doing this and then and then this and then this. You are trying to make it a smooth, easy, flowing motion so that your mind is understanding exactly what you want to try and do. To me that is one of the first ways to get over the stumbling block of what I call segment, or segmental golf, where you are trying to get into all these different positions and draw the line and match the line to the dots. So step back, look at your swing, and say hey nobody every told me that. What if I did my swing in slow motion. You might find in slow motion you are taking the club outside.
Slow Motion Golf Swing Allows for Corrections
Here I am let's come back in here, if this is my set up, I put a ball in here, if you are doing your swing in slow motion and suddenly your club starts to go out in here. Is that what you want? Or do you want it coming straight back. By doing that swing in slow motion you will begin to understand A) what you are doing, and B) and if you do not like what you are doing you can begin to go ahead and get it corrected in a very slow manner. Try it, you will like it, and tune back in because we have a lot more ideas on this subject.
