Fix Toe Shots
If you've developed a tendency to miss off the toe, you know it can be frustrating. Thankfully, you can get your ball-stiking back on track quickly with these fixes and drills.
Stop Hitting Golf Toe Shots
The toe shot. We swing at the golf ball and we slightly mishit it every time out towards the toe side.
A simple cure may be that you are just standing too far away from the ball so make sure that you are standing a comfortable distance to the golf ball and not overextending. But generally, 90% of the time, it is the opposite, where the arms are pulling in and you catch it on the toe. That means that I am lining up here, I come through and I am pulling in somewhat and I catch the toe of the club as I am pulling in to the left. To counteract that you want to have a swing where you are hitting the golf ball and then you feel like you are extending more down the target line and expanding your arms.
Exercise to Eliminate Toe Shots From Your Game
One of the most common problems people have when they hit the ball off the toe is that they have too much clubface rotation both in the backswing and the downswing when they are hitting a shot.
So what I would like for you to do is I would like for you to set up and make a little one third backswing where the face of the club keeps looking at the ball. Come back to the ball and try to hit down on it slightly, feel like you are just going to pinch it against the grass, and then follow-through with the face of the club looking square to the arc on which you are swinging.
Discover & Fix the Cause of the Toe Shots
For those of you who are trying to fix those shots that are hit off the toe of the club rather than in the sweet spot of the club, it is important for you to know what causes that.
Imagine if you will a circle, and this circle is being described by the head of the club, it is the circle that the head of the club will travel on throughout your swing. Now at the center of that circle is your body and what you are trying to do is to understand that if the center does not move away from the ball then the head of the club will reach it as long as the arc is extended. So we are going to try to do two things, we’re going to try to find some exercises that are going to help you keep your center the same distance from the ball all the time, and then we are going to try to get your arc extended so that the sweet spot of the club runs into the ball rather than the toe of the club.
