How to Bounce Golf Balls on Wedge Clubs
Updated December 16, 2021
Bouncing a golf ball on a wedge can break up the monotony of waiting for the next hole to open. While players have been juggling balls off their wedges for a while, the trick became popularized when Tiger Woods filmed a commercial featuring some tricky bounces, culminating in hitting the ball midair. While the final shot is dangerous, anyone can learn the juggling portion of the trick.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
- Choose a wedge you like. Use a wedge in which the face angle provides a flat surface parallel to the ground when held in your hand at a comfortable angle.
- Grip the club about halfway down the shaft, so your thumb is on top of the shaft when the face is pointing up and is pointing down the shaft toward the face.
- Hold the ball about 6 inches above the club face.
- Drop the ball and allow it to bounce off the face without raising the club to meet it.
- Lift your arm slowly as the ball falls back to the club face to pop it into the air. You should aim to bounce it about 6 inches high.
- Repeat Step 5 to juggle the ball off your wedge.
- Move your hand up the club as you get more comfortable until you hold the club by the grip.
