This really is a fascinating course. The front 9 is a walk (or ride) in a tree-lined park, old style back-and-forth muni course. With a couple of odd twists. Hole # 6 is an uphill par 3 that is 210 yards from the black tees (200 from the blue tees), a blind shot to an elevated green you cant see from the tee. Hole # 7 is 420 yards (from black tees) but what you cant see from the tee is that after about 220 yards the fairway drops off into a pond, a pond you can't carry with a 270 yard carry! You have to lay up with a 220 yard or less tee shot on a 420 yard hole! Then # 8 is a straightaway par 4 - except that it is 480 yards from the tips. The back 9 is simply spectacular, with shots from elevated tees to a narrow green or to a fairway you cant see, fantastic views of the Wasatch mountains, an island green, and more. The signature hole (and most exciting) should be the par 3 13th, which plays to 231 yards from the black tees from an elevated, cliff-hanging tee to a much lower green area that is only 18 yards wide in the middle, including the fringe. Hit it left, hit a rock wall or a rocky hillside you cant play from. Hit it right, go down into a ravine you wouldnt want to climb into even to look for a ball. There is no bail-out. The par 5, 567 yard # 14 begins from an elevated tee perched on the side of a hill and requires a 250 yard carry to reach the fairway, not much of which can be seen from the tee. Then hit your second shot either into left fairway (narrow strip of land with rocky hillside on the left) or the right, with a rock out-cropping in the midddle. Hole # 15 is a fairly routine par 4, except that the green sits up on the edge of a plateau that looks out over a valley or basin that stretches for hundreds of miles, with the snow-capped Wasatch Mountains in the distance. # 16 is a 190 yard (from the tips) par 3 to an island green, with no bail out, not even from the forward tees. # 18 is a nice finishing hole, a birdieable 620 yard, dogleg right par 5 that leads back to the clubhouse, where you can get brats and beer and remember a really fun experience. The one negative I have to comment on is that this course has experienced significant vandalism (apparently 2 seasons ago) that has scarred several of the greens. I understand the new course superintendent is repairing the damaged areas as quickly as he can, but these scars do affect putting on several holes. Playing this course is still a wonderful experience. Rates are also very reasonable and the pace of play is quick, even though you may encounter some slow beginners on the course. They will (in my experience) always let faster players play through.
