We golfed at Southwyck Saturday, 6/23/12. One of the carts ran out of juice before the second tee box. There was not a beverage cart operating, the water jugs were empty and there were two back to back groups of 5 golfing in front of us. It took 5 hours and 45 minutes to complete. I play this course often and like the fast greens, layout and condition. Unfortunately, the management of this course has been horrible since the change in ownership several years ago. I have tolerated the service challenges because I like the course but there are too many other golf choices at a comparable price that value the business. We will not be back and will not be participating in any tournaments there this year (SGS, Meals on Wheels, etc...)
First time to play in this course. Bought online special with at 6.56am to be first to tee off so that we can enjoy a game without trailing slow players . The starter instead allowed a group of retirees to highjack the first tee time and we were relegated to the second tee time slot. The starter looked into our eyes and said that all the players in the first group were regulars and very fast players.During play it became a pathetic sight to see the front players struggling to hit the balls from the front red tees and trudging along on the greens as if they were zombies. It became a painfully long and piteous wait at each hole for all 4 to hole out .It was at least a wait of 20 minutes for each hole to be played. Our 2 other fellow players finally broke ranks and moved a hole ahead of them.THE LAST STRAW CAME WHEN FOR NO REASON AT ALL, AND WE NEVER INDICATED OR SHOWED ANY IMPATIENCE,one of these players turned towards us and in an aggressive manner shouted out to us not to hit a ball when they are in range. We were taken aback. We have played golf for over 20 years in golf courses all over the world and we are familiar with the rules of golf. We did not infringe any rules or golf etiquette. We are well aware of not hitting a ball when the front players were still within range. This was an act of uncalled for ugliness to intimidate .We called it a day and with 5 more holes to play we quitted. There is a conspiracy it seems to bully newcomers to the course . So, this will be the first and only time we will play there and this has left us with a bad taste. We took our business to Wildcat golf course since then.
Great overall value, but the "2011 Texas Drought" has really hit all the area courses hard. Just off the fairway there are soil cracks 1.5" wide --- enough to lose a ball. You can tell from the fairway and green conditions they are watering aggressively, as they were both in good shape. It looked like they were in the midst of a moderate landscaping upgrade in different areas along the course. For $25-40 you can play a round, get a free lunch, and play was very quick. I will be back, and hopefully the drought will let us before summer gets here.
