What a strange design. You have the option to pay for 11, 13, or 18 holes but almost nobody plays 18 because holes 13-17 are across the street and verging on impossible, with many of those holes having incredible elevation changes and no landing area. The front nine is pretty flat with a few doglegs. The greens were very slow but in decent shape.

The value was decent, even though the course had many areas that were in poor shape. The biggest complaint is the lack of attention that is given to pace of play. We were 4th in line on the first hole, stuck behind a family of four. The parents let the kids re-tee multiple times and never gave a second thought about the groups waiting on the tee box behind them. By the 11th hole, 2 holes were open in front of them but they didn't seem to care. I recommend spending a few more $$ for a better course in the area.

I play Wood River at least once a week. It is a great public course, well maintained and very affordable allowing me to play numerous times a week.

This is a really quirky course.

Played Wood River on an unseasonably warm day in November. Wood River is a fairly short, par 69 track that runs about 5200 yards. The course consists of 13 holes on one side of a road in a plot of land that most certainly was once a farm. Aluminum farm-like buildings are on the course - and in play. It is not uncommon to hear a clank of a golf ball striking an aluminum barn. The 13 holes are flat with a few doglegs and not very difficult. Because of the doglegs, at times it is hard to tell where the holes go.

The 5 holes on the other side of the road are a different story, though. These holes are strange. These holes feature hills, tons of large rocks, trees and even an abandoned boat. The 14th hole may be the strangest hole I have ever played. It is a 250 yard par 4, but the flag is probably only 50 yards from the tee, but it is protected by tons of trees. You hit out with a short iron, then hit back to the green with another short iron.

The price is right though. $52 got us a round of golf for two with golf cart. They have a restaurant, but it was closed for the month of November. If you are in the area and want to play a cheap, real quirky course, then Wood River is for you.

Great experience at Wood River. You cant beat what you get for your money here. Open on the front-- tight and hilly on the back. Low pressure golf experience. Dont miss the restaurant either- lunch was delicious and the staff was friendly.

What a dump.....the course design is horrific...possibly the worst track I've ever played. Back nine is a golfing joke. The look? Fourth hole has a chicken barn for a back drop to catch long balls.
