Nice, relatively easy 9 holes.

Split Rock's South Course are the original 9 holes of the course. The North holes have been added relatively recently. These holes are much, much easier than their North cousins.

My wife and I played this course on a late October Sunday with Hurricane Sandy just one day away from cruising through Pennsylvania. It does not look like many people play golf in the Poconos in late October, and the weather was not the best, so the course was not mowed recently and traps and tee boxes were not raked, but the course was in acceptable shape. I think we were the only people all day to play these holes.

If you are looking for a more difficult layout, try the North course. If you want an easier round, play the South course. If you want to get 18 holes in, play the North front nine followed by the South 9 holes. The North front nine is much easier than the North back nine. The South course is not as hilly and scenic as the North Course, but it also is much further away from I-80, so it is a bit quieter. There are also more houses that surround the South course, although none are really in play unless you really mishit a shot.

My favorite hole was the 6th hole which ends up by the old Clubhouse (it used to be the 9th hole before they opened up the current clubhouse). It is a par 5, not long, that is S shaped, so shot placement is key here.

In summary, the South course is a nice, relatively easy track and a recommended play if you are in the area.
