Nice course for long hitters, however, as a walker, we should have been warned about the goat path nature of this course...even challenges for the carts on some hills. I would suggest only walking this course in cool weather, otherwise it's extreme golf. The course was in good shape considering the drought we're having. Nice club house and a refreshment cart available on course...consider the overall acreage of this course, they might consider a restroom pit stop.

Took a foursome there on July 25. Everyone took a half day off work and drove 45 minutes to get there. We had to wait out a heavy downpour for about 20 minutes and then the sun came back out. That was on hole 5. By hole 7, everything was pretty dry again. To our amazement, the guy running the pro shop drives down and tells us the "superintendent" called and said they are closing the course - at 4:15 pm??? He told us rather rudely "finish the hole we were on and go back to the clubhouse". I even asked if they were expecting more rain and the guy said no - the sky was blue at this point. We were totally amazed and pretty ticked. The course was fine at this point so it seemed like people just wanted to go home. Not a good way to do business. THEN they told us they would give us a raincheck for the holes not played. REALLY? This guy had the nerve to tell us that? We left and went down the road to Ponderosa Golf Course and played 9. Don't know if we'll be back even though we've played there on occasion and like the course.

The course does have potential, however the maintenance is way below par. The rough is too high and there were clumps of grass in the fairways. Most of the greenside traps are in need of serious care. I will probably avoid the course for awhile and that is unfortunate because it's only 15 minutes from home.

Since Sam Depe III purchased Hickory, the course has been drastically improved. From flipping the nines, to taking out large amounts of trees, to keeping up with proper green maintenance. And with the addition of Sammy’s Pin High Pub and Restaurant it makes for a friendly place to eat.
