This course is permanently closed. Too bad--I hear it was nice.

They are under new management and seem to be going the right direction. It always plays DIFFICULT. One of the best layouts in Ohio, unfortunately, it's in the middle of nowhere. Hard to get on the schedule because of location, but worth the trip.

Have heard some rumors that this course will not open for the 2011 season. A shame because when well maintained it certainly is a beautiful course. The course peaked in the late 90's but since then, management has switched hands two, maybe three times and the course never got back to full potential again.
I last played there in October of 10' and there was some work being done to improve some of the problems mentioned in other reviews (greens, sand bunkers, and general overgrowth.) I was down there 2 weeks, sun shining, and there wasn't a soul in sight. So I don't believe there will be golf at Castle Shannon this season.
The course is very tough in my opinion, and even tougher if you don't hit the ball straight consistently. However, it is a great change of pace from other surrounding courses, shame to see it seemingly hit rock bottom.

I use to play this course all the time, then the owners of Copeland hills GC took over and never put any money into it. the greens were hard and bumpy, no sand in the traps. Piont blank I will never play this course agian until the Copeland owners get their head out of their AS---. and put some money into it or Some one with a teaspoon of commen sence takes over. And the sad part even Copeland Hills is suffering for the decsions of the Owners.... WILL NEVER PLAY EITHER COURSE AGAIN!!!!!!!! Save you money and play courses that actually care about the COURSE!!!!

WOW what a nightmare!!!!!!!! TRAVELED OVER 80 MILES TO PLAY THIS GOATPATH. called the "proshop" 2 days early to make the teetimes, at that point ask this simple question, IS THE COURSE IN GOOD CONDITION? the answer was a simple, YES IT IS. THIS GUY IS A BOLD FACE LIAR. was able to meet this little weasel in person at the course when he refused to refund any money, and still stood by his opinion that the course was indeed in good condition. aerated greens with NO top dressing, fairways hard as rocks with burnt patches everywhere, weeds and dandilions have TAKEN over all the SAND BUNKERS, I DON'T HAVE ONE POSITIVE THING TO SAY. i have been playing golf 20 years and never seen anything like this. i never felt the need to write a review. i never asked for a refund before. POOR OWNERSHIP!!!!!!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, FUEL, GREENFEES, ETC. THIS COURSE NEEDS TO SHUTDOWN UNTIL BETTER MANAGEMENT CAN BE FOUND. it is a shame, the course has a great layout, and we use to go there often in the late 90's, it WAS worth the trip. we payed for 18 holes and only played 9, we could not stomach it any longer.

Quite a shame, the layout is unique and looks to have once been a great course. All sand traps are now mud sand waste bunkers with no sand to be found. The rough had not been cut in a week making it impossible to find your ball amongst the thousands of dandilions that lined the course. Dandilions were even growing on some of the greens. Group in front walked off after 9 when course refused to refund their fees after they complained about course conditions. Would not play again until new management takes over.
