Nice course...if you can find it!Played Broadacres 9 holes on a sunny Thursday afternoon. The course is on the grounds of the Rockland Psychiatric Center. It is quite difficult to find -- you need to wind through the psych center, past some old, abandoned roads and buildings, to a dirt parking lot, then walk about a quarter mile to the clubhouse. The course itself is as difficult as it is to find, especially its stretch of holes 3 through 5. From the back tees, the course plays to about 3,150 yards. From the whites, you play to about 3,050 yards. Par is 35. Hole 3 is an uphill 220 yard (from the whites) par 3, hole 4 is brutal - a 440 yard par 4 (460 from the blues) with a strategically placed bunker in middle of the fairway. and hole #5, a 500+ yard Par 5. The course rating from the whites is 35.5 and its slope rating is 131, so if you can muster a good score here, it would be great for your handicap.Playing this course is quite expensive if you are not a Town of Orangetown resident. I paid $29 to walk nine holes - and this was the twilight rate. Rumor has it that the town is considered closing this course due to losses primarily from the relatively low number of rounds it gets. [Note to town - if you want more play and therefore more revenues - then cut the non-resident fee. It is way too high. Us non-residents who want to play in Rockland could play Rockland Lake or Rotella for much cheaper. This is a really nice layout - it would be a shame to see it shut down].In summary, a nice course - get out there and play it soon!.
