New to the game, but Pelham Bay is a great course for someone of my ability (on the cusp of breaking 100.) Most of the longer holes and pretty straight forward, and the shorter holes make up for distance with bunkers and elevation issues. Enough challenges to make it interesting but not too tough. Split Rock is a little tougher and a little better maintained. Staff and fellow golfers have always been friendly.

Played Pelham Bay on a very, very cold December day. The course was largely empty due to 20-30 degree temperatures, so only the hardiest of the hardy were out there today. Nonetheless, the course was in decent shape for winter.

This is one of the better NYC municipal courses (Split Rock, Pelham Bay, South Shore and LaTourette are the top four NYC muni courses in my opinion). Pelham Bay is located in the Bronx just south of the Westchester border. Split Rock golf course is right next door -- the two courses share a pro shop and restaurant. This makes pace of play a bit quicker than other courses since there are 36 holes in the complex - although pace of play is not too much of a problem in 30 degree weather like it was today. Still a summer weekend round here could take you a while. Pelham Bay is the easier of the two courses, but it is now slouch. My favorite holes are the 4th and 5th holes near the Westchester border. The 4th is a relatively short dog leg right with a tough two-tiered green and the 5th is a very long dog leg left from an elevated tee.

This course at full rates is quite pricey -- there are no winter rates. Try golfzing.com for occasional specials. Regular price with cart is $72 - we paid $36 through golfzing.

In summary, a nice course - one of the best NYC has to offer.

course is in great shape, the staff are among the most friendly of all nyc courses and do what they can to keep things moving. enough challenge from the blues to back pins to keep you interested, great putting green, wish they had a range, good food at the grill. can be a bit slow at times but because their are two courses there, usually pretty easy to get out.
