If you do your research you'll find that Quarry Hills is no longer under the ownership that wanted to make sections of the course income properties. I think there were articles about this in Triad Golf Today (look it up - they've got coupons, articles, etc.) and the local papers. Anyway, the course has been under new management and the damage done by previous owners has not been too severe. The driving range is long gone, but you still see the remnants of it from the odd par 3 behind the clubhouse. This hole seems out of place and is by far the suckiest hole on the entire golf course, with number one a close second. They had to move the green up on 1 and there are some crappy looking townhouses along the right side, but they should never come into play unless you're as terrible as I am. After that the course is really fun and worth every cent, and the first hole isn't really as bad as I make it out to be. The back nine is the best, though, and includes the quarry. Next to it is my favorite hole where you can try and mash it towards the tree line or hook it around a hill and then try and iron up to an elevated green. The course is an excellent value.

Wanted to add that the clubhouse/grill has plenty of beer, but better food could be found at a gas station.
