This course, a

This course, a Jeffery Cornish design, has some really exceptionally beautiful holes. The fairways are a bit narrow on some holes , the par threes from the blues are quite long, there are a few really challenging par fives and a couple you can reach in two with a strong second poke. The eighth is exceptionally tough, especially with the wind in your face. With driver, and then 3 iron one rarely has to hit 4 iron into a par five. You could walk this course but I'm glad we didn't as a lot of the transitions from green to the next tee require some good hoofing uphill. It is a true test of skill and the greens and fairways were in excellent shape given both the fact it is a municipal course and the drought conditions this summer. It only got 4 stars as some of the par fours are long, straight and narrow and not exciting as is typical with a lot of courses on the Cape. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and would definitely play it again.

Nice course.

The Captains Port course is a well groomed layout in Brewster, MA. We played the course on a comfortable Thursday morning.

Cape Cod golf in the summer is quite expensive and the Captains course is no exception. We paid about $96 per person for a Thursday morning round with cart. It appears to be a bit pricier that the other Cape courses, but this one is in pretty good shape, especially considering the recent lack of rain in the area.

The course plays from about 6,700 yards from the tips. The white tees at about 6,200 yards were challenging enough for us mid-handicappers. My favorite hole was the 8th - apparently the toughest hole in the complex - a par 5 with your third hit over water to the green.

So in summary, if you have a C-Note handy and want to play a nice, challenging round of golf, try this course. Rates appear to drop significantly outside of the busy summer season.
