I played this course in early September, and I have to say it was in the worst shape of any golf course I have played in the past 10 years! Greens: Burnt out, brown spots, cement like! Tees: sand, dirt & crabgrass! Fairways: Hardpan, thick crabgrass, browned out! Sand Traps: Cement, damaged a club on a large rock hidden underneath the 1/2 inch of sand in the trap! Trees blocking tee shots due to lack of being cut back, blind shots everywhere because of lack of cutting of hazards, an awful golf course. Don't spend a cent at this dump. Their rates are ridiculous, if I hadn't had a golflink discount, I would have been even more angry! Staff was not nice, ranger was nowhere to be found. NEVER GOLF AT THIS HELL HOLE.

This course is a great value, has a range, always has a deal going, if it was closer to me i would play more, but i still travel there a few times a year. Its not gonna blow you away, but its quiet and well worth it. I almost didnt go there because of the reviews on here, but now ive been back probably 5 times in the year since, that should tell you something.

Played for first time yesterday, and while I enjoyed the course, I was stuck behind two foursomes that were quite slow. When I made the turn both groups were on #10. Took about four to five hours. Good thing I had a pass from mama.Course was in decent shape for early spring. IMHO a course worth playing if you can find some discount coupons.

What a great day of golf. I played here today for the first time with a friend, we were paired up with 2 singles. The price included a bucket of balls which I liked, every member of this course were really nice & friendly & I would highly recommend playing here, I will definitely be back. I found this course through Golfnow.com but after booking it I noticed all of the negative reviews and I actually tried to cancel but I am so happy I didn't. I was so surprised at how inaccurate the past reviews were I had to post my own review! I hope to see more positive reviews because this course deserves it.

I played Saturday September 11. We had an 8:56 tee time but did not get to tee off until 9:10. The group in front of us was late and the starter waited for them. What the ...?
When we made the turn there were 2 groups on the 10th tee waiting to tee off.
The course is not maintained well anymore. The tee boxes were bad, the fairways thin and burnt, the greens were recently aerated but also had lots of damage and bare spots
.
Distance markers are rare (200 and 150 only) and signs marking distance to hazards did not appear accurate. On the fairway at #16 it reads 140 to the hazard, that appears more like 170 to the hazard. Two of us hit 8 irons to lay up at 135 yds and yet had another 30-40 yds before the hazard.
Play was so incredibly slow that we stopped after the 16th hole because of time. We were looking at a round well over 5 hours and just said it is not worth it. That was a first for us.

At their prices I expect a much better course, better management and faster play. This place looks and plays like a Municipal course.

This course stinks. For years I have played it because you can get a tee time when good courses are booked. The greens were horrible yesterday (9/11/2010). Management is rude and useless. Six hour round on a Saturday, ouch!!. I agree with the majority of other reviewers. Bad all-around golf experience.

Great course...very private setting, typical of an old time New England course. Have played it probably 10 times in the past year and always enjoyed it

Caution!! DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE...We provided them with a large group of players about 4 years ago only to get treated very poorly again. I and many other players in the area will NEVER RETURN to Maplegate to play under the current ownership. They treat people as bad as they can with zero manners. On the morning we played my foursome all shot in the 80's in 4 hrs 30 mins and still got "bullied" by the owner/ranger. A similar situation occurred about seven years ago while playing at Maplegate. I should have learned and stayed away for good.
