I frequent this course almost weekly, typically on a Wed or Thurs and usually dont have a problem with pace of play. Course is in pretty good shape and I've found the greens to be better than other courses in the area.
Spent a beautiful autumnal Saturday playing here with my husband and another couple. The course was in great shape and the staff was stellar. We're quick, competitive players and appreciated the way the marshal kept the pace up with encouragement as opposed to admonishment. After all we need to acquire.. and keep ...new players, beginners, families etc. but the trick is to do it without alienating more experienced, core players, I think Hunter Memorial does that well. Of course, that may not be the opinion of the self-aggrandizing, golf curmudgeons who can't stomach the site of a woman, junior or senior on the golf course , but who cares about them, they're a dying breed anyway. .Here in CT golf (and everything else) IS more expensive than in other parts of the country, but Hunter Memorial seems to be striving to keep prices affordable, and they also offer a wide variety of specials The rolling hill and stone wall provide a pastoral backdrop ... especially in autumn.
Unplayable on the weekends with all the local hackers. The play is just so slow even when the course is not busy. No ranger. Avoid at all costs, you aren't missing anything. Layout is meh, greens are slow. Every couple years I forget how slow the play is and go back because I live right around the corner. Perfect course for beginners, elderly, and hacks.
