The 18-hole "Westchester" course at the Westchester Golf Course facility in Los Angeles, California features 4339 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 64. The course rating is 0 and it has a slope rating of 0. The estimated green fees for 18 holes is $66. Westchester Golf Course Golf Club has an onsite driving range with 4 practice tees. The Westchester golf course opened in 1969.
I golfed with a friend and we really enjoyed this. Plenty of room at the large driving range and there is also lots of putting and chipping facilities. We took a cart and it ran about $50 each. It's right next to LAX, but we didn't mind it at all. It was a bit busy, but cleared up on the back nine. The course is in very good shape and laid out nice. It only has one par 5, with 8 par 4's and 9 par 3's. There were a few people more of beginners than us as they played through our thoroughfare 3 times. We like the set up and will be back here for sure. They also have night golf until 10 pm, but the lights are low and my guess is that you better hit really straight (and wear a helmet as not everyone hits straight) ;)
I actually loved this course - sure, its not Pebble Beach or Augusta, but for the price its pretty damn good. Westchester is a very convenient course for LAX passengers. I flew in from NYC for business reasons, got off the plane and headed right for Westchester. The course is just north of the airport, is short (par 64 - 4339 yards from the back tees) and not very spectacular, but it is real cheap and convenient. A round of golf today cost $22 plus $10 for club rental and took just a bit over 3 hours to play. They threw in a pull cart for me, which was nice. Great deal.I am told this course used to be only 15 holes until last year. The three holes they added are much harder and a much different feel than the 15 original ones. They are the 15th hole, a 515 yard par 5 - the only one on the course - with plenty of bunkers. This hole in my opinion the best hole on the course. The 16th hole is a par 3 with bunkers left and right of the green, and the 17th is an uphill par 4 that is quite challenging. The course has lights and I understand it is playable until 10PM. There is also a driving range and a snack bar. Note - large planes with international carriers are landing not very far away from some of these holes and it can get quite loud with plane noise. In summary, if you are flying out of LAX (or into LAX) and have a few hours to kill, head on over to Westchester, rent a set of clubs, and give it a go. Decent course, nice value.
I would agree with other reviews. The price is great for the location. Course is very short I pulled driver out for only 2 holes. The fairways are wide and in great shape. The greens are true but spongy and slow. Condition was fine for muni with driving range and practice area in good shape.
Honestly, I used to hate playing at Westchester. They only had 15 holes so at the end, it was like leaving with unfinished business. A month or two ago they got the 3 holes back and let me tell you, the course is a great value for under $40.00. It's not a fast play unless you play weekday early but you can't beat the value. It's not a country club but for a LA city course on the Westside of LA no less, you can't complain. You can drive to Orange Co. the Valley or Long Beach and find better courses but again, is the traffic and higher price worth it. I will play there again and I'm sure, really soon.
