Zero drop running shoes are gaining popularity among runners who prefer a natural feel and want shoes that promote a more natural gait. When it comes to golf shoes, TRUE Linkswear has owned the zero drop category since day one.

Now, TRUE has an all-new zero drop golf shoe, the Zero Drop OG Cush.

TRUE’s zero drop golf shoes, perhaps unsurprisingly, are actually crafted with more than just golf in mind. Yes, they’re made for the course, but they’re also made to transition off the course, offering comfort and a natural feel wherever your walk might take you.

I’ve been logging rounds and off-course strolls in the Zero Drop OG Cush, my first-ever experience in a zero drop shoe. Here’s my complete review.

If you’re not a runner – or even if you are – you might not be familiar with zero drop shoes. Zero drop literally describes the drop between your heel and toe built into the shoe. Most shoes have upwards of 8mm of drop, but zero drop shoes have no drop from your heel to toe, meaning your feet are in a more natural position.

TRUE also equips the OG Cush with a wide toe box to get as natural of a feel as possible.

In TRUE’s first-ever redesign of its first zero drop, wide toe box shoe, TRUE added 6mm of foam cushioning underfoot. That Wanderlux foam actually molds to your foot over time, resulting in an even more natural arch and optimal support over time.

I mentioned these shoes are made to be worn on the course and beyond. With that goal in mind, TRUE put a cross-life tread on the outsole, which it claims provides superior coverage and traction on all surfaces. I claim it works perfectly in normal golf conditions and is comfortable off the course. I didn’t test these shoes in wet, muddy course conditions, but these are lightweight, breathable shoes, not waterproof, so on days when you’re up against wet and muddy conditions, these aren’t designed to be the shoes for the job.

Turf Interaction: 4/5
Breathability: 5/5

On the golf course and off, here’s how the TRUE Zero Drop OG Cush performs in the areas where it matters most.

Comfort

The Zero Drop OG Cush is designed for comfort, and they execute the task to perfection. Even before I studied the specs on these shoes and read that TRUE officially gives the OK to wear them off the course, I started wearing them off the course.

With no previous experience with zero drop shoes, I had zero expectations or preconceived notions about that part of the design, but as soon as you slip them on your feet, you can tell something is different about them, in a good way. The Wanderlux foam feels great underfoot, and these shoes are easy to wear all day long.

My on-course testing of the Zero Drop OG Cush included rounds of both walking 18-holes, and riding, and I would have no hesitation in wearing these for future walking rounds, given the conditions don’t require waterproof shoes.

Sizing

Easily my biggest gripe with the Zero Drop OG Cush is the sizing. These shoes run small, a fact I was made aware of before selecting the size. However, I’ve worn the same size shoes, regardless of the brand, my entire adult life, and never had a sizing issue, so I figured since I’m not on the border between two sizes, I’d be fine sticking with my regular size.

In hindsight, a half-size up probably would have been the right call. These shoes do fit a little tight, and the only hint of discomfort I’ve experienced with them is simply my feet searching for a little more room.

Other reviewers have reported the shoes running small to varying degrees. It’s worth reiterating that TRUE is transparent about this fact, and it’s something to consider when selecting your size.

TRUE also gets points for offering the Zero Drop OG Cush in men’s and women’s sizes and styles, with five different color-schemes in each.

The Zero Drop OG Cush is designed to be a lightweight, breathable shoe that prioritizes comfort, and the outsole fits that mission well. It’s not the most aggressive outsole you can find in a spikeless golf shoe, it’s actually closer to the other end of the spectrum.

The cross-life tread works great on the golf course in dry or damp conditions, yet you don’t feel like you’re wearing a golf shoe when you take it off the course.

The lightweight nature of these shoes makes it easy to lean into breathability as a strong suit, which TRUE does well. The mesh area above the toes provides plenty of brethability and compliments the water-resistant toe and mid portions of the shoe nicely.

The Next Steps

In my experience, TRUE Zero Drop OG is an excellent shoe. It’s comfortable on and off the golf course, it looks nice, and it provides all the traction you need to play golf in standard conditions.

If you’re concerned about sizing, it’s easy to simply size up. I had never worn a zero drop shoe before, but now I’m a believer. Whether you’ve already experienced the benefits of zero drop shoes, or you’re curious about them, this is your chance to get your feet into a zero drop golf shoe.

If you’re the type of player who rolls with one pair of golf shoes until they fall apart, I’d recommend a waterproof pair to get you through the shoulder seasons (there are some surprisingly breathable waterproof golf shoes these days), but if you want a pair to compliment your wet-weather golf shoes, this is an excellent choice.
