Titleist 2021 Pro V1 and Pro V1x Golf Balls Review
The Titleist Pro V1 golf ball is held in high regard among professional golfers year after year. So how do you enhance a ball that is already checking all the boxes? The 2021 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls have been improved at every layer, resulting in more distance and better feel.
New Dimple Design
One of the first differences you may notice in the new Pro V1 balls is the updated dimple pattern, the first entirely new dimple patterns since 2011. Titleist’s Research and Development team works for years on finding the ideal dimple pattern for the best flight of the golf ball. In fact, 90 iterations (60 on the Pro V1 and 30 on the Pro V1x) were tested on the new balls before the winning spherically-tiled tetrahedral patterns were chosen.
The Pro V1 now has a 388-dimple layout (up from 352 on the previous Pro V1) and the Pro V1x has a 348-dimple pattern (up from 328). The dimple layouts allow the Pro V1 to maintain a penetrating trajectory and the Pro V1x to fly higher than the previous version of the ball.
Is the New Pro V1 Easy to Control?
Both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls have a softer cast urethane elastomer cover that produces more greenside spin. The result is better control in your short game.
Changes to the Core
As was the case with the prior generation, the Pro V1 has three layers while the Pro V1x is composed of four layers, thanks to a dual core. The reformulated 2.0 ZG process cores provide more distance but still allow for a soft feel that most golfers prefer.
New High-Flex Casing Layer
One complaint from even low handicap and professional golfers is too much spin on longer shots, a distance killer. The improved highly-resilient, high-speed ionomer casing layer cuts down on long-shot spin giving you more yards off the tee and with your long irons.
How are the New Pro V1 and Pro V1x Balls Different?
The Pro V1 golf ball is designed for most golfers and is our pick as the best golf ball for low handicap golfers. It has a pleasing, soft feel and a penetrating trajectory. The long-game spin is very low for increased distance.
The Pro V1x golf ball has a high trajectory and more spin than the Pro V1.
