Skechers GO GOLF Pro 5 Golf Shoe Review
Skechers is approaching a decade in the golf shoe industry, and have gained popularity among golfers, from weekend warriors to tour pros. In fact, Matt Fitzpatrick won the 2022 U.S. Open wearing Skechers, the Pro 5 Hyper to be exact.
Skechers have always made shoes designed for walking, so the brand’s place in golf feels natural. But how do Skechers latest and greatest golf shoes perform on the course? I took the Pro 5 Hyper out for a 36-hole test. Here’s everything you need to know.
Spoiler Alert: Skechers Pro 5 Hyper Verdict
The Skechers GO GOLF Pro 5 Hyper golf shoes do a lot of things right. The waterproofing is impenetrable, they’re very comfortable, and the traction is excellent. These three things combined make them great for golfers who play in all types of weather, and a great option for golfers who like to walk, be it occasionally or every round.

The Skechers GO GOLF Pro 5 Hyper are waterproof, spiked golf shoes. Each shoe has eight replaceable spikes.
They feature HYPER BURST cushioning, Skechers’ Arch Fit insole system, Resamax insole cushioning, and a removable insole. That’s a lot of confusing marketing speak to say that these shoes go all in on comfort, and I can tell you, they mostly deliver in that department (more on that later).
The rubber bottom meets a synthetic upper, and the shoes come with a two-year waterproof warranty. They feature a lace-up front that, I must say, includes satisfying laces in terms of length and thickness. As minor as it seems, some laces on golf shoes are too short and dainty to tie tightly, but not these.
Skechers GO GOLF Pro 5 Hyper Review
I expect a lot from my golf shoes. I prefer to walk, and I like to start my season early in the spring and play until those bitter late-fall days. With all that being said, I need my golf shoe to be comfortable enough to get me through 18 holes on my feet, and the waterproofing needs to truly be waterproof. I need to step into those soggy lies on the front nine with confidence that I’m not going to be scrounging through my trunk for a spare pair of socks at the turn.
On top of all that, they must perform in slippery conditions. Golf courses tend to be wet, whether or not it has rained recently, and a golf shoe’s primary function is to keep the golfer connected to the ground throughout every golf swing.
In my testing, the Pro 5 Hyper golf shoes really knocked it out of the park in these areas, which is why, despite a few things I think could be improved, I recommend any golfer searching for golf shoes to wear in any golf season, and for multiple golf seasons, consider the GO GOLF Pro 5 Hyper.
Look & Style: 3/5
You have five color options with the Skechers Pro 5 Hyper. The mostly white and mostly black options are quiet and clean-looking.
There are also two models that incorporate a splash of red. The gray and red edition features a gray upper and tongue with a red sole and accents, and there's a version with a black upper, white sole and red accents. Finally, there's a white with blue trim option available on some third-party sites, but that style is not available directly through Skechers.
The familiar Skechers “S” is emblazoned toward the heel of the upper in a contrasting accent color in each color scheme.
Overall, this isn’t the sexiest golf shoe on the market today. It offers neither a traditional-looking package, nor a modern, edgy flair. It’s more of a function-first design, but if the style is the only element holding you back, the black or white options are neutral and subtle enough to jive with any outfit you want to wear on the course.
Traction & Turf Interaction: 5/5
Wearing the Skechers Pro 5 Hyper, my connection to the ground felt flawless. These are spiked shoes with replaceable Softspikes – one of the most reputable spike-makers in golf – so I had high expectations in this department, and the Pro 5 Hyper did not disappoint.
From full swings with the driver off slippery tee boxes, to shots from the rough off uphill and downhill lies, I never slipped or slid in these shoes.
Waterproof: 5/5
Before reviewing these, I wore them for two rounds, walking 18 holes each time. These weren’t just any rounds. These were early-March in New England rounds. That means cold temperatures, wet golf courses, lots of mud, and even some snow. Maybe not ideal conditions for playing golf, but absolutely perfect for testing a golf shoe.
The Pro 5 Hyper’s performance in keeping my feet dry, warm and comfortable throughout these conditions was nothing short of flawless. I noted each round how my felt not only felt dry, but actually warm, despite low-40s temperatures.
Skechers offers a two-year waterproof warranty with these. It’s not hard to find golf shoes that give you a one-year waterproof warranty, but two years is an added bonus.
Comfort & Sizing: 4/5
The Pro 5 Hyper are comfortable golf shoes, but the insole is noticeably more comfortable than the upper.
While I loved the way the bottoms of my feet felt on every step, the comfort of the upper was pretty average, and overall left me wanting a little more from this department.
4 Reasons I Recommend Skechers Pro 5 Hyper (& 3 Drawbacks)
My favorite element of these shoes was the fact that I tested them on two separate cold and soggy days in muddy conditions, but despite that, my socks and feet stayed warm, dry and comfortable while walking 18 holes.
If you’re a shoulder-season golfer, particularly a walker (although these benefits extend to golfers who usually use a cart), this should be one of your top two priorities.
Your other top priority should be how the shoe interacts with the turf. Again, testing the Pro 5 Hyper in muddy and wet conditions gave me the answer I needed: the traction is superior.
I played from uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies in wet grass, and can honestly say I stayed balanced and connected to the ground on every shot.
The cushioning of the Pro 5 Hyper is another nice benefit. They felt great on the bottom of my feet with every step, but I expected a little more comfort from the shoe’s upper.
The other thing I’m not over the moon about is the style. While it doesn’t affect performance, I’m a fan of traditional-looking golf shoes that almost disguise the brand. These are almost the opposite. Aesthetically, you can tell they’re Skechers from two fairways away, and upon further inspection, it becomes clear they’re also golf shoes. But hey, maybe that’s just my personal style.
Pros:
- Better waterproof warranty than many golf shoes
- Great traction in wet, muddy conditions
- Great for walking in any conditions
- Kept feet warm and comfortable despite cold, wet conditions
Cons:
- Upper was not quite as comfortable as I hoped
- Style
- Only comes in men’s version
Who Should Consider the Skechers Pro 5 Hyper?
After walking 36 holes in quintessential shoulder-season golf weather, I was really impressed with the Skechers GO GOLF Pro 5 Hyper shoes.
Having shoes that you know will keep your feet warm and dry makes the idea of playing golf on those dicey-weather days much more appealing. No wet socks means you can focus on your golf game.
Not only did I have no problem walking 18 holes in these, but I didn’t have any aches and pains in my feet or legs later that night, or the next day (which I get after walking a round in other golf shoes).
Any golfer looking for a reliable pair of all-season golf shoes that will last at least two golf seasons, should consider the Pro 5 Hyper.
