There are two kinds of golf speakers these days: those that double as GPS distances devices, and those that concentrate on playing music.

If you have no trouble getting your yardages around the golf course some other way, and you’re looking for a great golf speaker for on and off the course, check out the Rockform G-ROK golf Bluetooth speaker.

I've been using this G-ROK speaker pretty much every day for weeks now, here's my complete review.

G-ROK Pros

The Rockform G-ROK Bluetooth speaker is designed for golfers, but it’s not just a golf speaker. In fact, I use it in every other appropriate real-life scenario. It’s responsible for my daytime jams while I work. In the kitchen, I slap it onto the refrigerator and rock out while I cook, mix up a drink, or take care of the dishes. I even attach it to my kids’ stroller when we head out for a walk.

Of course, it’s also great on the golf course whether you walk or ride.

For those who need a speaker to elevate the vibe in the cart, there’s a lot to like about the G-ROK. The magnetic back is easily the strongest of any golf speaker I’ve used. It takes some strength to pull it off.

It’s also just a great speaker. It’s got two drivers inside and it turns out high-quality sound, capable of volumes several clicks higher than I’d ever need on the golf course.

If you’re a walker, just use the attached carabiner to clip it to your bag. Yes, it’s a little larger than those built-just-for-walkers speakers, but it weighs about as much as 10 golf balls, so it’s certainly not going to weigh you down on the course.

I don't own an SD card, but I love playing golf without even looking at my phone, and I'm tempted to download a playlist to an SD card and use this speaker like a CD (SD, perhaps?) player and ditching my phone while I play. Apparently you can play up to 5,000 songs doing that.

G-ROK Cons

Given how quickly the G-ROK connects, I’d say its quite user-friendly. The only minor frustration I’ve encountered in the weeks I’ve been using the speaker is that what look like the volume buttons on the speaker – the “+” and “-” buttons – actually change the track when you give them a click.

When you’re trying to turn up your favorite song on the playlist, but skip it instead, that can be frustrating. It took me longer than I’d care to admit to figure out that to adjust the volume, you have to hold those buttons, and can switch track by just clicking them, which in the end I suppose is added functionality.

I’ll admit it, I almost always walk the course, so I only plan on slapping this speaker to a golf cart a few times a year, but for those who plan on using this on the cart regularly, the black speaker will definitely blend in with the black cart bar, so just don’t forget to grab it off the cart after the round. I’ve made that mistake before with a different speaker, and of course never saw it again.

We already mentioned that while yes, this is a golf speaker, it’s not a golf GPS speaker, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you won’t find it here.

I can’t blame you if you think a speaker is just a speaker, but there are actually quite a few features packed into the Rockform G-ROK. Here’s a look at some of them:

  • Up to 24-hour battery life
  • SD slot
  • Waterproof (IPX7) and dustproof
  • 30-foot range
  • Shockproof, can withstand drops from up to 5-feet

Rock Solid

The Rockform G-ROK Golf Bluetooth Speaker is a good choice for players who want a speaker that can stand up to the elements on the golf course and serve your needs off the course.

Sure, it doesn’t offer GPS functionality, but it does boast high-quality sound. The powerful magnet makes for easy attachment, the carabiner adds versatility, and the ability to play music without a phone makes it a convenient, all-around performer.

The speaker’s sturdy build, impressive battery life, and water- and shockproof design make it a reliable companion for a variety of outdoor activities.

If you want a speaker for tunes on the course and beyond, the G-ROK is definitely worth considering. Just be mindful of its volume control quirks and the potential to blend in with your cart. At $99, it offers excellent value for golfers who want great sound without the added GPS functionality.
