Guide to Ping Rapture V2 Line of Golf Clubs
The Ping Rapture line was launched in 2006, aimed at developing players and those searching for maximum forgiveness from each club in their bag. The Rapture V2 line, released September 1, 2008, is made with a combination of stainless steel, titanium and tungsten, and each club is uniquely perimeter-weighted and available in a variety of shaft flex options. Like many clubs, the Ping Rapture V2 series serves some players better than others. Their features could take time to get used to.
PING Rapture V2 Driver & Performance
The Ping Rapture V2 is a 460cc titanium-tungsten driver designed to help players get the ball airborne quickly. The Rapture V2 is equipped with two visible sole weights, near the sole and toe. This, Ping claims, reduces spin, optimizes center of gravity and promotes quicker launch. Rapture V2 drivers come in four lofts: 9.5, 10.5, 12 and 13.5 degrees. Fitted with a special Ping TFC 939 graphite shaft, the Rapture V2 is a game-improvement club with a head weight of 200 grams.
While the Rapture V2 is comfortable with the ability to help most players keep the ball in the fairway, it has the tendency of producing high, lofty shots, resulting in loss of distance. While the 9.5-degree club with minimal torque does produce lower shots, the ball gets up a bit quicker than desired. An 8.5-degree offering would serve this line better. Stronger players should upgrade to a heavier custom shaft from Aldila, UST or Grafalloy, all available from Ping, to avoid extremely high ball flights. Depending on shaft options, Ping Rapture V2 drivers retailed in the $400 range.
PING Rapture V2 Woods
Ping Rapture V2 fairway woods are high-trajectory clubs available in a 3-wood (16-degree), 4-wood (17.5), 5-wood (19) and 7-wood (22). They are perfect for players needing maximum forgiveness, accuracy and versatility from the rough, fairway and off the tee. Stock shafts are suitable for slower swing speeds. As with the Rapture driver, stronger players should choose heavier, stiffer shafts. The Rapture V2 fairway woods retailed for $200 to $250 per club.
Rapture V2 Irons & Specs
Rapture V2 irons (3-iron through lob wedge) are oversized and made with a three-part multi-metal design. Each clubhead consists of a titanium face, tungsten sole weight and stainless steel body. The sole weight and large cavity back help maximize launch. They are forgiving clubs available in steel and graphite shafts. Both stock options are suitable for novice players. Working the ball is a bit difficult, and players with higher swing speeds will fare better with steel, extra-stiff shafts. Rapture V2 iron retailed in the $1,000 to $1,200 range.

Ping Rapture V2 Hybrids
Despite being touted as high trajectory, game-improvement rescue clubs, Rapture V2 hybrids are solid performers from a variety of lies. They come in four lofts (17, 20, 23 and 27 degrees) and for novice and developing players are suitable alternatives to long irons (3 through 5 iron). Equipped with stiff shafts (steel or graphite), Rapture hybrids were also extraordinary rescue clubs for the advanced golfer.
