A 14-divider golf bag is a perfect solution for players who want easy access to each individual club with zero hassle. To organize a 14-divider golf bag, put your wedges in the shortest slots closest to you, your irons in the middle, and your woods in the longer slots in back. Your putter goes in the largest slot.

Organizing a bag with so many dividers, however, might be tricky, so we built this guide to make sure you utilize the bag properly.

Whether your 14-divider golf bag is a stand bag or a cart bag, making a habit of placing each club back in its respective slot helps you with your pace of play and easily locate the club you need for the next shot. It can also eliminate mistakenly grabbing and hitting the wrong club (we've all done it!).

Here's the proper way to organize a 14-divider golf bag when it's strapped onto a golf cart. Use this as a guide even if you’re a walker.

  • Front dividers (closest to you): These are the shortest dividers and are intended for your wedges. For one, you don’t have to reach over your longest clubs to access your shortest clubs. Also, this positioning eliminates blemishing your woods from pulling your wedges out of the bag.
  • Middle dividers: Reserved for all of your irons. We’ll detail below to properly organize everything from hybrids to your pitching wedge.
  • Back dividers (closest to the cart basket): These slots are for your fairway woods and driver. Keeping them furthest from your wedges avoids an unsightly ding on the crown.
  • Putter well: The largest divider is reserved for your putter.

In order to properly organize each club, let’s look at your 14-divider golf bag in four rows and we’ll work from left to right.

  • Row 1 (3 dividers): gap wedge, sand wedge, lob wedge
  • Row 2 (4 dividers): 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron, pitching wedge
  • Row 3: (4 dividers): 3 iron/hybrid, 4 iron/hybrid, 5 iron/hybrid, 6 iron
  • Row 4: driver, putter, fairway wood

*Note: The location of each bag’s putter well causes this setup to vary.

Where To Store Accessories in a 14-Divider Golf Bag

Chances are your 14-divider golf bag is on the larger side, which also gives you the luxury of having additional space for accessories. Here are some typical places for you to organize your supplies:

  • Large zippered pocket: Located on the largest panel of the bag, this pocket is reserved for any rain gear or extra clothes you need to pack for your round. It’s also a great spot to store a rain hood or a spare golf glove still in the packaging.
  • Small side zippered pocket: The smallest pockets are usually the best place to store tees, ball markers, Sharpies, and any other on-course essentials. Sunscreen in this pocket is also a wise decision. If you prefer to not attach your laser rangefinder to the exterior of your bag, this is likely the best spot.
  • Golf ball pocket: Somewhat self-explanatory, put golf balls in the medium-sized pocket on the front of the bag. If you don’t carry a lot of golf balls, this is an alternative spot for your rangefinder.
  • Valuables pocket: This small, fleece-lined pocket is the perfect place for your watch, phone, wallet, or anything else that you’d like to avoid losing or getting damaged by its surrounding accessories.

Biggest Pro: Comfortable to carry
Biggest Con: Legs

The CG stand bag is a staple in the Cleveland golf bag lineup, and the latest model has been upgraded to include 14 dividers. For a stand bag, we were very surprised how it fit all of our clubs and accessories yet was still a comfortable carry. If you’re a walker, it eliminates the sound of shafts clunking around while you walk. We wish the legs were a little more stable on non-grass surfaces, but the upside of this bag easily makes us forget about that small complaint.

Biggest Pro: Value
Biggest Con: Zippers could be better

If you’re looking to try a 14-divider golf bag without making a big investment, the EG Eagole Super Light cart bag is a great place to start. Mainly found on Amazon, this bag isn’t quite the high-quality you’ll find in a Sun Mountain bag, but for a casual player who just wants a bag that will get the job done, this fits the bill. It has nine pockets, easy grab handles, and an insulated pocket if you like to pack beverages.

Biggest Pro: Color Variety
Biggest Con: Price

Nike golf bags haven’t been our favorite throughout the years, but this Nike Performance cart bag checks just about every box possible. It has a 14-divider system, you can feel the quality of the materials, and most of all, the designs are fantastic. There’s an eye-catching camouflage look and a clean-looking red, white, and blue colorway. Our only complaint is the steep price, and that’s likely because of the Nike swoosh emblazoned on it. Still, this bag is awesome.

Pros and Cons of 14-Divider Golf Bags

As with any specific genre of golf bag, there are pros and cons to 14-divider golf bags.

Pros:

  • These bags are the easiest solution to organizing your clubs on the golf course
  • They usually come with additional storage due to being larger overall
  • Avoid damage to your other clubs by keeping each club separated
  • These bags mute a lot of the noise you usually hear when riding or walking (bag chatter)
  • It’s easier to notice a missing club with individual dividers
  • Much less likely to pick up penalty strokes for having more than 14 clubs in your bag

Cons:

  • These bags usually cost more that the alternatives due to material cost
  • Due to the size, 14-divider golf bags are heavier than the alternatives

Alternatives to a 14-divider golf bag include:

  • 4-way divider: Typically found in the lowest priced golf bags, a 4-way divider bag is usually the first golf bag a player owns. On the other hand, some players prefer this type of divider if they aren’t particular about how their clubs are separated.
  • 6-way divider: The happy medium (not mathematically, of course) between the 4-way and 14-way. This type of bag gives you the option to keep your clubs separated a bit more, but without giving each club its own individual slot.

Divide and Conquer

There’s no wrong way to organize the golf clubs in your bag, it ultimately comes down to your personal preference. If you’re tired of your clubs jamming up in your bag, or if you’re prone to leaving wedges behind, a 14-divider golf bag might be a great solution for you.
