TaylorMade SIM Max Hybrid Review
Hybrids have become standard for professional golfers in the past decade, completely replacing older, hard to hit long irons from their bags. They should be in your bag too by now. Long irons might’ve been good enough for Arnold Palmer, but we were never going Arnold Palmer. One of the pioneers of hybrids, TaylorMade, is back with the updated SIM Max model. Boasting 5 different lofts (19°, 22°, 25°, 28°, 31°), the “Shape in Motion” or SIM line of hybrids and woods try to match aerodynamic club heads with club faces that allow for maximum forgiveness.
The design involves getting the center of gravity as low as possible using a variety of materials. The carbon composite crown allows for a lightweight club while a steel sole shifts weight down, while a proprietary titanium allow allows for a tough and rigid construction. TaylorMade also continues to refine their process of injecting a resin behind the striking surface which acts almost as a spring for the ball. The face also remains asymmetrical to provide more forgiveness on mishits providing fewer strokes lost overall. The V-shaped sole plate also reduces contact with the ground to lessen friction and the recessed toe and heel limit drag. The result is one of the best hybrids on the market.
