9 Classic Golf Shoes for Timeless Style in 2024

When you think of classic golf shoes, what comes to mind? Do you think of a leather saddle and spikes, reminiscent of old-time golf shoes worn by the greats of the 20th century? Or, perhaps you think of the most iconic sneakers of the 1980s, ‘90s, and 00s, but in a golf shoe.

Whichever style comes to your mind, and regardless of which you prefer, the mid-2020s is an excellent time to shop for classic golf shoes (aesthetically speaking) furnished with all the modern luxuries and technology you’ve come to love from your current golf shoes.

I’ve worn a dozen different pairs of golf shoes on the course over the last two years, and I gravitate towards the traditional style with neutral colors. I have to say, I’m always skeptical that throwback-looking golf shoes can match the comfort of the running-shoe-looking options out there, yet time and time again I’m pleasantly surprised.

So here are nine great classic golf shoes, whether you love that old-time style or appreciate a golf-version of an iconic shoe.

FootJoy and classic golf shoes go hand in hand, so it makes sense to start our list with these snazzy shoes from FJ. The Premiere Series Wilcox are classic, traditional golf shoes to a tee.

From the full grain leather and the vintage saddle to the perfectly executed color combinations – various combinations of white, black, navy, cream, and red are available – these FootJoys are all business.

No matter which color combo you choose, you simply cannot go wrong rocking a pair of Air Max 1 ‘86 OG golf shoes on the course.

Here’s another 1980s basketball shoe turned golf shoe. The PUMA Slipstream G is more lightweight than its 1987 basketball counterpart to make walking the course a breeze. It’s also waterproof, which PUMA backs with a 1-year warranty. 

If you truly want a classic look, you might like the white, cream, and varsity green color combo, but the all-white with gum sole also makes for a timeless look, and there are other color schemes to choose from as well.

You didn’t think we could get through this list with just one pair from FootJoy, did you? At first glance, the FJ Original has a lot of the same style characteristics as the Premiere we mentioned earlier, albeit somewhat watered-down versions.

While the Originals are more simple, they’re also significantly less expensive. For less than $50 (depending on your size and color preferences) you can treat your feet to these lightweight, traditional, spiked FootJoys. Like the shoe itself, that price looks like it could have been from 30 years ago.

That’s exactly what the Gallivanter shoe does. 

The all-white shoe is 100% pebble full-grain leather and waterproof. The spikeless outsole churns out excellent traction and is emblazoned with some stylish artwork that’s anything but traditional.
