Spearfish Canyon is a very nice course. GPS in the carts is very handy too. In July '12 the tee boxes were small and chewed up, the fairways and greens were in tip top shape. The course flowed well with holes running parallel to each other in many areas and there were houses on the 10th tee box.
The greens were small and very crowned. It was difficult for some approach shots to hold because of the shape, kind of disheartening!
I didn't care for the all yellow flag stick and flag for every hole regardless of the pin location. Its just nice to have different colors depending on the pin location, just a personal preference.
Play SCCC if you are in the area but don't forget Elkhorn Ridge either, I actually prefer it to SCCC, more challenge and imagination in Elkhorn.

This is one of the most challenging courses I've ever played. Not forgiving, if you get off the fairway, you really have to work and make good shots to get back on track. Multiple elevations, up the mountain, through the valley, along the mountain, and through the trees, make this both a beautiful course and a fun, difficult one. The proshop is small, but friendly people run it. The burgers and fries are great in the resturant, with great views. Don't pass up the chance to play it if you are in town, you will have a great time..
