Our boat broke down while vacationing at Lake Martin, so we had some free time to fill. We ended up at Lake Winds, and had low expectations when I saw the clubhouse. Once we got out on the course, the story changed. It was a fun little golf course. It is a very short course with few hazards and no bunkers, so I expected to put up low numbers. But for a Florida boy used to flat courses with large greens the eleveation changes and postage stamp greens gave me a little bit more of a challenge than expected. The course was not in great shape, but the greens rolled true and there were no dead patches. You could tell they took pride in their municipal course and kept it in the best shape they could. I ended up playing 54 holes in 2 days, and enjoyed every single one of them. The course does not drain well so if you've had rain it will be wet. But it is a fun course that is well worth the low rates they charge. If you are staying in the area on vacation and want to get in a quick round, check it out.
