Decided to drive up to Santa Barbara and spend the July 4th weekend and golf. Sandpiper was #1 on my list. I am a member of Torrey Pines and a 4.0 hdcp. I shot 78. The layout on this course was nice but the condition of the course was a 5 out of 10. For $200.00 this is not what I expected. We have a muni I play for $35.00 that is just as good. Being July there was no excuse for the poor condition of this course. From what I seen this is common for this facility. IMHO this place is way over hyped. The $80.00 afternoon rate is what I would recommend. and don't get your hopes up.
The scenary is spetacular. The course is long for a high handicppr but the course was in great shape when I played in March. The greens are rock hard but rolled true. You have to land your approach shot high and soft or your rolling off the green. High priced but you are paying for a great course in an expensive locale. Also the great views alone are worth $50 a round.
